Man with a Profile — Chelovek s profilem
Synopsis
Personal data have always been collected from birth to death certificate. But now there is a concentration of the available information in the hands of large data-mining corporations. And their unholy alliance with state power. A computer voice lists the filmmaker's personal data on record. These data plot a biography — but algorithms create profiles.
An homage to Dziga Vertov’s Man with a Movie Camera (1929).
I have a profile, therefore I am.

Notes
The film was shot in Vienna and references Dziga Vertov’s Chelovek s kino-apparatom (1929). The images of a single day, from early morning till late night, serve as a metaphor for life.
The spoken data sets are largely based on the filmmaker's real data. As such they represent plot points in the filmmaker's biography. They tell a story. An extrapolated profile, based on algorithms, has the potential to tell a completely different story.
The ticker on the bottom of the screen lists stock market quotations from major US tech companies from A to Z.
